Health & Safety ranks as the top most priority at Bestway Cement Limited. The CEO has signed H&S policies which are in practice by following H&S rules.

The ambition of the Bestway Group is to provide safe working conditions and environment to employees and be amongst the safest companies countrywide. Health and Safety is at the center of everything we do, from the daily routines in our plants to our project worksites and our actions in our neighboring communities. Our aspiration is to conduct our business with zero harm to people and to create a healthy and safe environment for our employees, contractors, communities, and customers. This is how we intend to make a difference in the way we work, in our business and communities.

Bestway Group has developed a structured approach called Health & Safety Management System (HSMS). This system allows Bestway Cement Limited to determine H&S improvement plans per individual cement plant’s risks and priorities and incorporate them into all aspects of their business. The company focuses on safeguarding the Health & Safety of every employee through a strategy based on the three pillars of Prevention, Reintegration and Promotion.

The Health & Safety objectives of its 2020 Sustainability Ambitions are:

  • Reach zero fatalities and virtually eliminate LTIs for employees and contractors, Visitors.
  • TIFR for Bestway Cement Limited employees and for contractors on site
(where TIFR is; Total Injury Frequency Rate = the number of fatal incidents, lost time incidents and medical incidents per million hours worked.)

Bestway Cement Limited is committed to spread awareness about Health & Safety. ensuring that its principles are followed and applied not just at the work place but also in the everyday life. As an extension of its commitment, it looks forward to extending its best practices with other stakeholders to contribute towards health & safety improvements in Pakistan.

Health & Safety Programs in Schools

As Health and Safety is one of the top priorities at Bestway Cement Limited and as a socially responsible organization, actively seek to impart best practices in the communities. As part of creating shared value, Bestway Cement Limited launched Health and Safety programme in schools. The programme aims to build awareness among students and faculty members creating a Healthy and Safe culture in the schools. Through this programme, Bestway Cement Limited employees volunteer to talk about basic health and safety rules and encourage students to adapt them in their daily lives.

The programme includes creating awareness and educating particularly on road safety, health (hygiene and prevailing diseases), firefighting and S.M.A.R.T. usage of internet.

Hazard Reporting

At Bestway Cement Limited, the hazard card system provides easy access to reporting for visitors, guests and employees who can report any hazardous activity within the premises of our business. The reports are taken seriously and hazards are eliminated on priority basis.

Risk Assessment

At Bestway Cement Limited, there is no job that is performed without a detailed risk assessment. Our risk assessments are done in local language, allowing the worker to elaborate the risks involved and identifying solutions on how to eliminate them.

Toolbox Talks

Before starting each shift, the shift leader ensures a discussion takes place with workers regarding tasks and how to ensure safety.

Walkways

Dedicated walkways are provided for pedestrians to avoid potential risk related to mobile equipment and trucks. Safe walkways to move around the plant with two colours, i.e. green (PPE free) and red (where mandatory PPE are required)

Mobile Equipment Rules

It is ensured that every car is parked in such a way that its first move is in forward direction per allocated speed limit. In case of any emergency, it is safe to evacuate without reversing vehicle.

Housekeeping

Bestway Cement Limited gives importance to housekeeping at plants; the General Managers along with other staff take part in the activity on regular basis.
