Bestway Cement Limited has once again been acknowledged for its unwavering commitment to environmental stewardship, receiving the prestigious 22nd Annual Environment Excellence Award 2025 from the National Forum for Environment and Health (NFEH). All five of Bestway's plants—located in Hattar, Farooqia, Chakwal, Kallar Kahar and Mianwali, were honored for their forward-looking vision and consistent implementation of eco-friendly practices.
As a socially responsible corporate entity, Bestway Cement places great emphasis on the well-being of its employees and the communities in which it operates. The company views the creation and maintenance of a healthy social and environmental ecosystem as fundamental to its long-term success.
Carrying forward its legacy of sustainability, Bestway Cement has achieved full operationalization of solar power plants across all its sites, with a combined generation capacity of 110 MW; the largest distributed captive solar power generation capacity in the region. This transition to renewable energy has substantially reduced the company’s dependence on the national grid and led to a dramatic decrease in its carbon footprint, equivalent to planting approximately 9 million trees and offsetting over 5.6 million tonnes of CO₂ emissions over the lifespan of the project.
Taking its environmental efforts a step further, Bestway Cement Limited proudly announced its achievement of ISO 14064-1:2018 certification for Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions from TUV Austria Bureau of Inspection and Certification (BIC) in Pakistan. This certification covers all five of its production facilities at Hattar, Farooqia, Chakwal, Kallar Kahar and Mianwali following a rigorous evaluation process. Bestway Cement has set a benchmark for sustainable development by successfully verifying its Scope 1 and Scope 2 GHG emission inventories.
In the area of water conservation, Bestway has replaced traditional water-cooled systems with innovative Air-Cooled Condenser (ACC) technology, significantly reducing water usage. The company has also constructed large-scale rainwater harvesting reservoirs to lessen reliance on underground water sources.
A trailblazer in sustainable innovation, Bestway Cement pioneered Pakistan’s first Waste Heat Recovery Power Plant (WHRPP) with an investment of US $47 million. Today, all of its plants successfully operate WHRPP systems, reducing load on the national grid and reinforcing the company’s commitment to energy efficiency.
All Bestway Cement plants are certified under the ISO 14001:2004 Environmental Management System (EMS), reflecting the company’s adherence to stringent environmental standards. These standards, set by both the Pakistan Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and global regulatory bodies, are not only met but consistently exceeded through the integration of sustainability into plant design and operations.
Setting itself apart within the industry, Bestway Cement has established a dedicated Environment Department, led by seasoned environmental professionals. This team ensures that operations remain fully compliant with national and international environmental standards and best practices.
