On June 19, 2025, Members of Parliament, both past and present, came together to honour and celebrate the life and achievements of Sir Anwar Pervez, OBE H Pk, as part of his 90th birthday celebrations.
Hosted by Lord Zameer Choudrey CBE SI Pk, the event paid tribute to Sir Anwar’s extraordinary journey—from humble beginnings in Thathi, Gujar Khan, a remote village in rural Pakistan, to his migration to the UK in 1956 and subsequent rise as a pioneering entrepreneur.
This year holds special significance as it marks both Sir Anwar’s 90th birthday and the Golden Jubilee of the Bestway Group. To commemorate this dual milestone, the family commissioned a special book chronicling Sir Anwar’s inspiring life story, which was shared with guests at the exclusive gathering.
The event was a part of a series of heartfelt commemorative events that started in April in Pakistan, to honor the remarkable life and legacy of Sir Anwar Pervez, OBE, HPk.
The cross-party celebration, held at the historic Churchill Room in the House of Commons, was attended by prominent figures including Nigel Huddleston MP, Co-Chair of the Conservative Party; Afzal Khan CBE MP (Labour); Liberal Democrat Peer Lord Qurban Hussain; former Foreign Office Minister Lord Tariq Ahmed; Lord Dolar Popat; and Lord Philip Smith, among others.
Former ministers Rt Hon Tom Tugendhat MP MBE VR and Rt Hon the Lord Maude commended Sir Anwar for his outstanding contributions to British society, describing him as a living embodiment of its best values. Lord Maude and Rt Hon Sir Brandon Lewis, former Lord Chancellor, also reflected on how Bestway supported their families' small businesses during the 1980s, exemplifying Sir Anwar’s consistent support for independent businesses. They also fondly recalled their visits to Pakistan organised by Sir Anwar during their tenures as Chairs of the Conservative Party.
Dr Mohammad Faisal, High Commissioner for Pakistan to the UK, and The Lord Khan of Burnley, Minister for Faith, praised Sir Anwar’s vital role in strengthening UK-Pakistan relations.
Under Sir Anwar’s visionary leadership, Bestway Group has evolved into a global enterprise employing over 47,000 people, with leadership across the food, pharmaceutical, cement, and banking sectors. Driven by a deep sense of social responsibility, Sir Anwar established the Bestway Foundation, which has donated over £44 million to charitable causes—particularly those promoting social mobility, a cause close to his heart.
